LobbyBall, The Official Rules and Charter

The game of LobbyBall (or Yarnaax) is played between two participants utilizing an official bouncy ball of between 3/4" and 1" across and approximately 1.5 oz in weight. The court is to measure 6m in length, 4m in width and with a minimum ceiling height of 4m. There is a service box in the middle of one end of the court of 1m by 1m in dimension.

Each match is to be played to a number of points decided upon prior to the commencement of each individual match by the participants with the winner requiring at least a two point margin of victory. Points can be obtained by the following means;

1. A ball struck by a player hitting the front wall and entering the service box prior to the opponent making contact shall result in one point for the striker. This event can occur either upon a service or during the course of a rally.

2. A ball struck by a player hitting the front wall, AND the back ball and subsequently the front wall again prior to the opponent making contact shall result in one point for the striker.
This event can occur in conjunction with method One(1) in order to score two points. This is referred to as a "TwoPack".

3. If a ball is struck by a player hitting the front wall and the opponent makes an attempt to strike the ball and fails, the original striker may strike the ball and score one point if the ball makes contact with the front wall, this is referred to as a "Steal". The Steal attempt can only be made if the original striker AND the ball is behind the opponent in relation to the front wall.

A player may not interfere in any way, shape or form with the opponent whilst an attempt is being made to strike the ball. A "Let" can be called resulting in service reverting back to the previous server. In the event that one player blatantly, violently and purposefully interferes with an opponent a "Penalty Shot" shall be called. The player that was impeded will be given one free service from the Service Box in an attempt to score One service point by making a successful serve back into the Service Box. After the Penalty Shot attempt, the ball is dead and the impeded player will start the subsequent rally with service.

The Origins

Pictured is the historic birthplace of the sport of LobbyBall (or Yarnaax). Created in 2007 by a lonely, sad-sack pair of animators. The sport has grown into a world-wide sensation and will be a demonstration sport during the 2012 Olympic games in London.
